Dr. Garima Yadav

Dr. Garima Yadav has done Bachelor of Elementary Education, from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi (2004-2008). She has also completed her Masters (M.A.) in sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2010. She is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. Programme, at Department of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. Her research topic is: Pregnancy and Childbirth: Issues of Choice, Control and Woman’s Body. She has previously taught sociology at Masters and undergraduate level in Ambedkar University, Delhi.


Academic Achievements

  • UGC-NET qualified
  • JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) granted by UGC (University Grants Commission) from August, 2010- July, 2012.
  • SRF (Senior Research Fellowship) granted by UGC from August, 2012 – July, 2015.
  • Successfully completed Electra global online course for intercultural understanding, jointly conducted by university of Joensuu-Finland, Manchester University- U.K., and Jamia Milia Islamia University- Delhi, with A grade in the year 2007.

Research Experience

  • Part of DAAD-UGC Project based personnel exchange programme 2014-2016: Contested avenues of assisted reproductive technologies: A study of transnational transfers and cross-cultural practices. Visited the Department of Medical Ethics and History of Medicine Göttingen, Germany as researcher in December 2015 and March 2016, for a month each.
  • Assisted Prof. Geetha B. Nambissan, Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies, School of Social Sciences, J.N.U., as research assistant (June 2010)
  • Assisted Dr. Stefan Kutzenberger, University of Vienna, for 8 months, as adviser and translator for his anthropological research in New Delhi looking at the influences and changes Delhi is undergoing due to the commonwealth games in October 2010.(2010)
  • Primary research report on “Institutionalization of child birth in India”, by carrying out field work in 3 hospitals in Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital, St. Stephens Hospital and Sita Ram Bhartiya hospital in 2009.
  • Research based project on 'Perception about Gandhiji among teachers and students” Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi during 2007-08.

Teaching Experience

  • Taught Introduction to Society and Social Inequality (ISSI), compulsory course to students wanting to take sociology major and Tribes in India at the Undergraduate level, Ambedkar University, Delhi from January 2015 to May 2015 as Adjunct Faculty.
  • Taught Introduction to Social Sciences (ISS), a compulsory foundation course at Undergraduate level at Ambedkar University, Delhi from August 2014 till November 2014 as Adjunct Faculty.
  • Taught Tribes in India at Undergraduate level and Education, state and society in India M.A level at Ambedkar University, Delhi from December 2013 till May 2014 as Assistant professor (Sociology).
  • Taught Economic and Political Sociology at Ambedkar University, Delhi from October 2013 to December 2013 as Guest Faculty.
