Lectures Series on Goods and Services Tax (GST) in collaboration with Sadgamaya: May 28, 2017

Introduction

On August 03, 2016 the Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution Amendment Bill for Goods and Services Tax (GST) which shows the commitment of the Government of India to replace several indirect taxes levied on goods and services by the Centre and States and implement Good and Services Tax by April 2017. It will make the tax base comprehensive as it virtually includes and makes all goods and services taxable with minimum exemptions.

Questions like Why GST is Important to Indian Economy? Why education about GST is important to tax payers including individuals, small-medium and large companies and other organisation? become utmost important and need to be responded. To educate and inform industry and individuals alike, Sadgamaya and Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA has organised a GST Series of lectures.

Mr. V Lakshmikumaran, Founder and Managing Partner of Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (L&S) will deliver Lecture on Goods and Services Tax (GST) on May 28, 2017 at 08:00am at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (L&S) Attorneys, Third Floor, 5, Link Road, Jangpura Extension, Opp. Jangpura Metro Station, New Delhi 110014. This lecture series is an collaborative initiative of Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA and Sadgamaya. 

About the Resource Person

Mr. V. Lakshmikumaran is the Founder and Managing Partner of Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (L&S).

Mr. Lakshmikumaran was part of the Indian Revenue Service for about ten years and was instrumental in devising certain key tax policies of the Indian Government. He established the firm Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (L&S) in 1985 and has developed the practice in Tax, International Trade, Intellectual Property and Corporate Laws. The firm has over 260 professionals and offices in nine cities across India. The firm’s Europe Office is in Geneva. L&S is well known for its high ethical standards, quality work and transparency in all its business dealings.

Mr. Lakshmikumaran advises companies in all areas of taxation, including International Taxation and Transfer Pricing, Customs, Excise, Service Tax, Value Added Tax, Foreign Trade Policy, Special Economic Zones, offering consulting, advisory, litigation and compliance services. His expertise in handling cross border matters and related party transactions is widely recognized.

For over 28 years, Mr. Lakshmikumaran has handled several high profile litigations and has led the firm in representing clients in over 30,000 litigations before Supreme Court of India, High Courts, Tribunals and quasi-judicial authorities. He has played a pivotal role in the development of jurisprudence relating to customs and excise laws in India. His clients include many well-known Fortune-500 companies and leading Indian corporates.

Mr. Lakshmikumaran has been involved in interpreting and applying various multi-lateral agreements at both national and international levels. He is considered as an authority in trade remedy laws and TRIPs and has handled several disputes between companies and Government authorities in various countries. He has successfully represented clients from many countries in several anti-dumping, subsidy and trade investigation initiated by India.

As a delegate of the International Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Lakshmikumaran has attended the WC)-HS (World Customs Organisation – Harmonized System) Committee meetings on Classification in Brussels. He has addressed the WCO GATT Valuation Workshop on Customs Valuation.

Mr. Lakshmikumaran regularly delivers talks on diverse topics in international tax, transfer pricing, international trade, customs, excise, service tax, intellectual property and corporate laws. He has been invited to speak at several acclaimed institutions in India and abroad. He has also written extensively on these topics for various publications.
